ALGERIA • ARAB-ANDALUSIAN MUSIC OF ALGIERS - THE NÛBA ZÎDAN

Beihdja Rahal is one of the most beautiful voices of the arab-andalusian music of Algiers. According to the tradition, she sings in solo with a chamber ensemble which magnifies the sensuality of her medium range, her angelic high notes and the flexibility of her ornaments. The Nûba Zîdân is associated with the night. This version, based on the motif of the separation, with a beautiful love poem by the Andalusian female poet Wallada bint al-Mustakfi (11th c.), is a model of traditional rendition.
