UGANDA • MUSIC OF THE ACHOLI

Oral arts hold a large place in Acholi culture, as in many other African societies. This CD is devoted to Acholi intimate music, a living heritage which expresses the old traditional wisdom as well as a bitter chronicle of their present life, forced by a civil war to subsist in refugee camps or in exile. The songs are accompanied by virtuosic instrumental polyphonies played by an orchestra of lamellaphones lokeme (the African "thumb piano"), by an orchestra of harps adungu, or by two zithers nanga.
