LAOS • MUSIC OF LAOS

Devoted to 10 of the 48 ethnic groups that make up the population of Laos, this album of field recordings made in several villages acknowledges the extraordinary musical wealth of this country. Songs, gong sets, drum sets, and all kinds of wind instruments form an active part of the ritual and social life from courtship to funerals. But above all, this CD is a salute to a symbolic instrument, the mouth organ: the diversity of its forms and performing techniques from one population to another reveals treasures of inventiveness.
