PAKISTAN • THE NIGHT OF THE QAWWALS

Qawwali is the music of Sufi mystics in India and Pakistan. This powerful and spectacular music, which has a deep religious content, is performed on saints' graves by singers called qawwal. They are accompanied by harmoniums, handclapping and a tabla and dholak drum player. This CD presents the most outstanding moments of two ceremonies-concerts organised in April 1999 in Paris.
