Born in 1923 in Eldorado, Texas, John Burrus has devoted his life to two things: breeding and grooming horses for the rodeo (otherwise known as horse breaking for the rodeo) and the repertory of vintage songs learnt since his childhood from the cowboys whom he frequented. The songs that this self-taught musician renders, with a sincerity shorn of all artifice, recall - with humour and yearning - a bygone era when these men had to confront daily the dangers of a nomadic existence and put their fate cheerfully in the hands of God.
