RUSSIA/SIBERIA • MUSIC OF THE TUNDRA AND THE TAIGA

Siberian peoples are closely related to nature. And this relation is often put into music and sounds in a mimetic way. The imitation of the cries of the animals or the sounds of the steppe and the forest can be produced on different instruments: drums, whistles, bark trumpets, jews harps, but also with the human voice. As for the shamanistic voices, accompanied by the large drum, they introduce the world of the spirits and the supernature. This CD presents several examples collected among musicians from the northern and eastern parts of Siberia.
