The Venezuelian music for harps is a mingled folk heritage of the Spanish baroque music. Two traditions still exist nowadays : the Arpa llanera and the Arpa tuyera. The Arpa llanera comes from the Llanos, the great flooded plains of the South; a powerful music with its rough singing (canto recio) which evokes huge landscapes and the hard way of life of the Llaneros. This CD has been recorded in Barinas by an ensemble of musicians who still perform in the Llanero traditional context.
